The best moderate ice climbs in The Rockies

In an earlier post I mentioned a list of the top moderate ice routes in The Rockies as selected by Barry Blanchard. I recommend picking up this issue of Gripped magazine and I’ve copied the list below.

I’ve been spending a lot of time reading about local ice climbing routes and when I come across one that sounds interesting it’s been difficult finding out details because I can’t find a copy of the excellent Waterfall Ice guidebook by Joe Josephson. For example I keep coming across this route called THOS (see subject for expanded name) and after some digging around I think I found where it is in the Ghost River area. Map below.

I came across the co-ordinates on an archived page from Josephson’s book. You can also search the Gravsport-Ice forums for more info. [Update] Barry Blanchard just rated this route as one of the “Top 10 Rockies Fat Ice Moderates” in the January edition of Gripped magazine.
